I am so incredibly proud of this girl! There are no limits to my Lainey girl!
Over the past month or so, we have gone through many different (and long!) assessments and evaluations as Lainey will soon transfer from her Birth-to-Three program to the Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD). Due to her hearing loss, she was evaluated to see if she would need any additional services, like speech, as she transferred to school. She was evaluated on so many different levels (physical, adaptive behavior, social-environmental, cognitive, and communication). She was evaluated by a Speech and Language Pathologist, an Early Childhood Learning Strategist, and a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
Today, we reviewed the results. Lainey's entire team had such wonderful things to say about her, and she is right where she needs to be, if not ahead in certain categories! A really big accomplishment is that her speech and language skills are exactly where they should be. Hearing loss can affect the development of speech and language so the fact that she does not need any speech work (at this time!) is incredilbe. (This may change in the future but we are celebrating such an amazing accomplishment!).
As part of the district, Lainey will be receiving a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TOD). Her TOD will have check-ins to ensure Lainey's needs are being met in the classroom, and she will also help Lainey grow her advocacy skills in a classroom environment, among other things.
I am so proud of Lainey and all that she has accomplished so far! She continues to leave her mark with people, and I am so blessed to be her mother! I can't wait to see how she continues to change the world.
